If you think about the North American lifestyle compared to the rest of the world, we are living in a dream – we own houses, cars, we have jobs, clean drinking water, food. To have all of these things is to be better off than 75% of the planet. I think that we can forget this sometimes and take it for granted. We get caught up in our lives and even complain that things ‘aren’t good enough.’ What IS enough?
I watched a video called the Story of Stuff at an Awakening the Dreamer symposium in Toronto and I thought it was really good. It talks about how we consume without thinking about where all of this ‘stuff’ goes.
Here is the video:
If you are in Toronto and want to learn more about environmental sustainability and watch more videos like this one, on Sunday September 27, 2009 there is another Awakening the Dreamer symposium at the University of Toronto. Here is the website: http://www.awakeningthedreamer.org
Here is the link for the exact address for tomorrow: click here. If you are not from Toronto, you can still attend a symposium in your area. It’s all over the world! The symposium is usually free and is a gift from the facilitators – so that you may learn more about environmental sustainability and spread the word.

I saw this a year ago and it became the first in a long list of ‘consciousness’ videos that I’ve been exposed to since then that have permanently altered my entire world view. I’ll never be able to go back to the blissful ignorance of my previous existence which is a good thing. I’m now actively involved in a number of projects that are teaching me how to live a more ecologically conscious life and I’m learning how to share what I’ve learned with others and get the message out.
